Bookblog 2023.6 - Man. God. Freedom.

Notes

I have been doing some upgrades which required some tinkering with the build process for this blog, so the book notes are minimal. I have a new laptop (Lenovo Slim7) and a new NAS (Synology DS 118). The Lenovo is fine so far, and Synology makes the best NAS software out there (this was an upgrade from a 12 yo Synology)

Homo Deus

Interesting exploration of societal advancement and religion, linking the movement from animistic polytheism to monotheism with the progression from hunter gatherers to an agriculture. Rather than seeing gods in everything, with animals on the same level as humans, monotheism puts humans on a plane below the one god, but above animals and provides a better framework for their subjugation. Only a third through, but thought-provoking, for sure.

Started

Freedom At first, they look fairly ordinary, early gentrifiers of a St. Paul neighborhood. Sounds very novel-ish to put it that way, and I guess it is, but it is intriguing. I just saw that as of last summer, it is being adapted into a television series by Melanie Marnich, writer for "The Affair" Sounds about right.

In conclusion

Too much time working on systems to say more for now, except that Gandhi became available again, so that will be in the mix next week.
